Week Three

(10/25) Yeesh, J has been wanting to eat every hour and thus I've been chained to a bebe all day. Must be growing!  Good thing we only had exciting things like watching Tron for the five-billionth time followed by some Dora and Word World on the docket today.

Marc and his mom stopped by tonight to visit.  They brought us chili and bread for dinner (yummo!) and some cute, cute outfits for the littles!   They brought C a football too, but C keeps calling it a basketball, and is convinced it's time to go play outside, even though it's now dark.

Sleepy J
(10/26) Nanan babysat the little boys for a few hours while C and I escaped for some fun time at the museum.  Yay for getting out of the house!  It's so cold out that I don't feel very comfy taking the little boys out in it for long.

C & D
(10/27) Pediatrician visit:  J weighed in at 6lbs 2.3 oz (5%), and was 19.75" long (25%). D weighed 5lbs 13.8oz (5%) and was 20" long. J's up quite a bit from 7 days ago (5 lbs 9.6oz)!  D's only up about 3oz, but their Dr didn't seem too concerned.  Everything else checked out great again.  We go again when the boys hit two months.

We took the littles to visit the work peeps.  Hi, work peeps!  It was so good to see everyone. It's weird how it simultaneously feels like I've been gone forever and like it was just yesterday that I was waddlin' around all big and preggo-like.

Bitter baby face, part 2.  (J)
(10/28) Happy due date, boys!

Sarah, Jor, Jamie and Nana came for a visit today and brought lunch, Starbucks, and darling baby outfits and blankies, and a big brother shirt for C.  C left with them to go play at Nana's for a few hours. He missed Dawn and her boys when they stopped by, but her kiddos found his toys all the same.  Dawn, I hope you got your baby fix even if it was just one baby!

Pouty D
(10/29)  Nanan watched the little boys while C and I went to hockey.  The boys took their first bottles today with no issues. Yay!

(10/30) We had a quiet day at home today.  Dad watched the littles and made a feast for dinner while C and I went to Halloween with the Light On at Imagine.  J was still passed out where I had left him, and baby D was swingin' away.  Dad looked like he fared much better than I did. Big brother was really workin' on my last nerve.

(10/31) Happy Halloween! The littles won't be making the rounds this year, but one of us will take Spider-man out for a little bit.

Daddy watched the little boys while I got out for a much-needed coffee walk with Sarah, and again while C and I visited Granddad and Grandma and trick-or-treated.  We raided Grandma's freezer and are well stocked with meals for the week. Thank you!!

Week Two

(10/18) Dad went back to work today.  His coworkers got him a joke clock that was set to go off every hour.  I suggest every two, since that's the kind of sleep we're operating on.  Sorry, honey!

First solo day went great.  Kathy kidnapped C for the afternoon, and the little boys and I got to hang out, sleep, and catch up on TiVo'd programs.

Burritos!  D on the left, J on the right
(10/19) Hey, look at that!  Instant human, just add sleep!  J slept six consecutive hours last night and D took a five hour morning nap.  I can definitely get used to sleep like this!

We ventured out to take C over to play with Jordan, and then ran errands that didn't require the little bits leaving the car.  The kiddos did some serious napping today.  I wonder how this bodes for tonight.

Bitter baby face (J)
(10/20) Oy.  Another brutal night of sleep.  I will be spending my day cat-napping and trying to be functional.

Pediatrician visit today.  J weighed in at 5lb 9.6oz - 0.6oz up from birth weight and D weighed in at 5lb 11.2 oz, 1.4oz down from birth weight.  It's funny because J feels heavier now than D, but D still weighs a tiny bit more.

The rest of the visit went well and we'll go back in another week for their two-week checkup.

The boys are down for a nap and I am coffee'd up.  Ahhh!

D
(10/21) And we have belly buttons!  Cute little outties!

Both boys have found their thumbs.  They can usually get the thumb in, but the rest of the their hand covers their faces.  I have yet to get a picture, but it's pretty funny.

Sarah kidnapped C again today so we spent the day sleeping / doing laundry.  Amazing how two small little guys can generate so much!

(10/22) I hesitate to say this, but I think we're on to something sleep-wise.  Two pretty good nights in a row - we're on a streak!

Granddad took C to hockey today, and the little boys and I took a long nap.  Then we watched napped through Tron with C once he got back.

(10/23) Carved pumpkins today!  J was impressed:

J

(10/24) Yep, I jinxed it.  It took them a good three hours to go to sleep last night.  Thankfully, Dad and I were both off today and could take full advantage of nap time!

Week One

Happy Birthday, D!
(10/13) What a blur these last few days have been.  It looks like we'll be discharged today after D's car seat monitor.

Both boys are sleeping on the end of the bed as I type this.  We got as much sleep as you can get when you're checked on virtually every hour.  The staff has been great, but I can't wait to be home!

Update from home:  Melissa came over, made us tuna casserole, and let us catch a few winks.  Nanan and C walked/biked to the park and entertained themselves, so we had a pretty quiet house all things considered.

Happy Birthday, J!
(10/14) It is wonderful to be home! The first night went really well and we all ended up sleeping until 9am. I'm sure that won't be the norm, but it was sooo needed.

We had a nice day visiting with friends that came over and generally just taking it easy.  Jay and Sarah B visited, made lunch, and played with C.  Then Sarah L came over with baby Jamie ~ it's hard to believe that there's the same age gap between C & Jor that there is between the babes and Jamie.  She also brought Sbux & brownies.  Mmm, recovery food!

(10/15)  Not so much sleeping was done last night.  Both boys decided they would rather be up eating all night instead.  We had their weight checks this morning and J is back at birth weight and D has gained 100g since leaving the hospital.  He's still at a 7% loss from birth weight, but with the amount of eating that was happening last night, I can't say I'm worried.

We have noted that J is a bit of a sprinkler ~ we've gone through lots of sleepers and cloth dipes to catch the sprays here at home. Brilliant Mom takes extra diapers and wipes to the check today.  Do I grab an extra sleeper?  'Course not!  Just when we thought it was safe to re-dress, he gets his outfit below him.  Poor baby boy had to ride home in just a dipe and a blanket.  Did I mention it was like 40° out?  Mom fail.

We came home after the appointment and I took a nap with the boys for a few hours and am feeling more human.   Dad took C to hockey and then came back and did the same thing.  I hope tonight goes better!

Granddad and Grandma have C for the night, and the twins and I are hanging out.  Well, they're sleeping, I'm blogging, and Dad is downstairs playing the Xbox.  They let us have a dinner break together and watch a little TV.  Kathy brought us some fab chili and cornbread.  We have such nice friends!

(10/16) Yay for a lazy Sunday!  C came back from Granddad's mid-morning and we all did a whole lot of nothing including some TV watching and napping.  The boys are sleeping in three hour chunks and I definitely think we've out-grown the preemie diapers.  Let's just say we've done A LOT of laundry!  Well, Dad has, anyway. I haven't done a whole lot other than give him more laundry to do.

C is off to Jordan's house for a sleep-over tonight, so it's just us and the little bits.

C REALLY wants to help/be involved with the babies and doesn't seem to understand that babies are pretty boring (to a 4 year old).  But he's adjusting.  I have a feeling evening/bedtime is going to get real interesting around here this week with Dad back at work.

(I0/17) Well, the routine needs tweaking, that's for sure.  Yesterday, they boys slept well allllll day until around 11pm and then were *awake* until 2am.  Yawn!  Once we got them down, they stayed down til 8:30a.

We ventured outside today to exchange the preemie diapers that Granddad and Grandma stocked us with, and hit Dad's work to meet his coworkers.  We'll hit mine soon too; promise, coworkers!

We'll endeavor to keep the little boys awake a little longer today in hope that they sleep better tonight.  Dad goes back to work tomorrow, so wish me luck!  Although, nanny Kathy will be kidnapping C for a while during the day, so that will be one less munchkin to juggle.

Thanks Rob for the pics!  They turned out so cute!

Hi Babies!!

LOL ~ status of C's "big brother squared" shirt... but yeah, totally appropriate!

(10/8) Happy wedding, Justin & Lisa!  I managed to find something that fit over the bump, and it wasn't even maternity.  Shocking!  We left the reception a little early and hit a hockey game (we lost: boo!) and had a nice evening to ourselves, as Nanan had C.  Dad picked out some "My Other Car is a Zamboni" onesies for the boys and got me a hockey mom key chain.  So sweet!

(10/9) Since C was still away, we decided to go to the movies and see something more grown-up. We chose The Ides of March. Excellent film!  We chased it with Knocked Up after C returned & had gone to sleep.  It didn't kick labor into gear like with C, but both Dad and I had a simultaneous ice cream craving (yet he swears he's not pregnant!), and we indulged in some sundaes from B&R.  Yum!

(10/10) Knocked Up apparently worked its magic again.  I had been having contractions all afternoon, so called the fam on my way home from work and gave them a heads' up.  My contractions slowed down after I got home, so I decided to have some dinner.  After dinner, they resumed frequency to over 6 in a hour, which was the point my doctor said to just go in.

Triage tried hydrating me to see if they could knock out the contractions, but it didn't work and we decided to proceed to c-section (repeat c-section since both boys were presenting breech).  The doctor on-call I had met two weeks ago and liked very much.  She had a c-section before me scheduled for 10pm, and because I had eaten, the earliest I should be having surgery was midnight.

Headed to the OR
(10/11)  We went back for our c-section and Denton James (5lbs13oz, 20") was born at 1:14am and Jensen Campbell (5lbs9oz, 19") was born at 1:16am.  It's a really good thing we went in, as Denton's cord was velamentous and it would've been a bad thing had my water broken, or if we decided to proceed with natural labor.

J gave us a bit of a scare and came out very gurgly.  He was almost sent down to the NICU, but by the time his ride arrived, they were satisfied with his breathing and he stayed in the OR with me.  They had given me a chance to give him a kiss beforehand, and decided it was Mom's kiss that made everything all better.

(10/12) Boys are both doing well.  They have met all the grandparents & their brother, plus a lot of our friends.  We're being well taken care of at the hospital. Since the boys arrived early, we scored Nurse Cathy O to care for us!  Yay!

We did a newborn shoot with the boys in the hospital today and got a few with C.  I'll be posting the pics from that as soon as I get them.

Swiss Chard

(9/14) 33 wks
(10/3) Aw, my very sweet hubby bought me a month's worth of Stroller Strides (bootcamp for moms & babies).  Can't wait to be cleared for exercise again!  I am dying to get outside and do more than waddle!

(10/4) Work threw me an amazing baby shower!  The boys will be stylin' in their new duds and we have loads of diapers to start off in! We plan to cloth diaper at home, but disposables are nice for outings or travel, and until they fit into their BGs!  One of my coworkers crocheted the most darling & soft blankets, one found a set of twin baby books, and there were picture frames, and containers for the first curl and tooth.  I am so very spoiled! C even got some things to keep him busy at the hospital.  Thanks again, work peeps!

(10/5) Prenatal appointment, ultrasound, & NST:  The appointment went great, the ultrasound went great, the pre-op consultation (set for NEXT FRIDAY!!!) went great and then the boys decided to take a nap and failed their NST.  So back we went for yet another ultrasound (bio physical profile) where they were reactive and working on breathing like they were supposed to be.  Guess they needed more camera time!  Baby A is measuring 5 lb 14 oz and Baby B is measuring 6 lb 2 oz; +/- 14 oz since it's hard to get measurements at this stage with them being so big and so active. Baby A is still breech and B keeps flopping back and forth between transverse and breech.

(10/6)

Close enough to 37 weeks!
(10/7) 37 weeks!  Here is what BabyCenter has to say about this week:
Your baby is now considered "full term," even though your due date is three weeks away. If you go into labor now, his lungs will likely be mature enough to fully adjust to life outside the womb. (Some babies need a bit more time, though. So if you're planning to have a repeat c-section, for example, your practitioner will schedule it for no earlier than 39 weeks unless there's a medical reason to intervene earlier.)  Your baby weighs 6 1/3 pounds and measures a bit over 19 inches, head to heel (like a stalk of Swiss chard). Many babies have a full head of hair at birth, with locks from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long. But don't be surprised if your baby's hair isn't the same color as yours. Dark-haired couples are sometimes thrown for a loop when their children come out as blonds or redheads, and fair-haired couples have been surprised by Elvis look-alikes. And then, of course, some babies sport only peach fuzz. See what your baby looks like this week.
