October 22nd-28th

(10/22) I scored a walk this morning with Sarah.  My car is in the shop, so the littles and I got to hang out today while Dad was at work and C was at school.  Thanks so much to Kathy for bringing C home!  We did a little baking this afternoon and made an awesome applesauce cake, for which I had to make some fresh applesauce first--yum!  Dad said I could make it again any time. The littles thought beater-licking was the best, and wanted me to steal more and more from the bowl that C was licking clean.

(10/23)  We lost our dear sweet Shrek today to hemangiosarcoma.  He had been fainting for the last several days, so we had more x-rays done and unfortunately his heart was filled with tumors. Over the last week, he went from his normal puppy self to a geriatric dog. My heart is broken.  He was such a wonderful boy with the kids, and both the littles still yell "SHREK NO!" when they hear a dog barking.

Nanan came to watch the littles while I was with Shrek.  They were down for a nap when I returned and we visited/cried until it was time to go get C from school. We had a date to carve pumpkins at Granddad's this evening.  It was the perfect thing to take my mind off the heartache for a little bit.  We had a lovely evening, and the boys really got into their dessert.  Blueberry syrup FTW!

(10/24)  I had to remember how to work today after a week off.  Up and at 'em early, worked all day, and Dad had the kids. My car is done (hooray!), so I met the boys at the rental car agency and Dad returned our loaner, and then we picked up my car.  I ate dinner when I walked in the door and then pretty much had enough time to put the littles to bed. Sigh.

(10/25) Work day for Dad & me, and the kids went to Kathy's.  Early release for C today, and it was yucky out.  Yay for cooped up boys!  The littles took a 3.5 hour nap, which worked out perfect since dinner took a while to cook and they were up about 30 minutes past their normal bedtime.

(10/26) Hockey practice for C today.  I was Mom-of-the-Year and packed them snacks, the stroller, coats/shoes, etc in the diaper bag and then left without the diaper bag.  D was wearing a t-shirt and had no socks. And I took him down to the locker room like that.  Dad to the rescue brought the bag and I was able to suit them up to play.  After hockey, we came home to lunch and nap.  The boys napped late into the afternoon, so I let them stay up a little late while I did some baking.  I brilliantly forgot the baking soda and the butter in the pear-sauce bread, so it turned out to be a bit gelatinous.  The beaters were still good though!  I re-baked after the kids went to bed and got the beaters to myself.  Score!

(10/27) I woke up to loud twins and pouring rain.  Awesome.  C had a race this morning, and Granddad & Grandma joined us. I left the littles with Dad while we headed off to the race.  C did awesome, and it was dry for his race.  Granddad's & Grandma's race was soggy, but they did great too!  C and I checked out all the booths, and scored a toy for C, and a couple of granola bars.  It was a fun morning, but very chilly!  After we got back, I was ordered to give out "NACKS!" (snacks) aka lunch. The boys ate, and then went for down for a nap, which took them a good hour to settle in for.  They were yelling "MOM-MOM-MOMMY-DOWN-WEEEE-STOP!" etc.  But they did eventually sleep.  I may have crashed for a bit too, and I didn't even run today!  I woke up to sun and scooted out for an afternoon walk with Sarah.  Left the littles with Dad again and came home for dinner and play time with the twins.  Their vocabulary is increasing by leaps and bounds.  They are "counting" - or at least making the sounds for the appropriate numbers and clapping hooray when I reach 5 and 10.  I videoed J playing with the magnets and sort of singing along to the ABCs.  He wanted to watch himself no less than 50 times. They both love watching videos of themselves.  So cute!

(10/28) Monday-Monday. Here's to a better week.  It's conference week, so C has early dismissal every day.  Dad has the boys and I have work.

October 15th-21st

(10/15) I slept in this morning and then took the dog boys to the vet.  We ended up doing an x-ray on our older dog and he has a mass on his spleen.  We've decided not to operate since he is 12.5 (as well as some other factors) and will try a recommended supplement instead.  Moose was just there to get his rabies. I was there for so long that I came home in time for lunch and nap for the littles.  After nap, it was time to grab C. We hit the park with Sarah and her littles and then came home for dinner and bed.  C's new Skylander game arrived and he was in heaven just playing with the characters, as he'd already used his screen time for the day.

(10/16) I volunteered in C's classroom this morning, and Nanan came to watch the littles.  We were going to go tricycle shopping, but decided to do it online instead.  We decided on ones that were only available in the store, so Nanan left after the littles' nap to go pick them up.  We had a messy dinner followed by bath time, and didn't do much else.

(10/17) Harrumph.  No story time for us today.  Instead we get to go fridge shopping because ours is dead.  We got one with a beefy warranty; easily convinced after having little fingers test out all the gadgets. It will be delivered Monday.  Granddad and Grandma came to the rescue and grabbed all our food, and then came back for the littles to take them to play on the beach. After C came home from school, he did his homework, had screen time, and then he and I headed over to Grandma & Granddad's for dinner, while Dad headed out for dinner with the guys.  We had a lovely afternoon riding bikes and eating dinner, and then everyone met at home for bedtime.  Whew!

(10/18) Today we bummed around until it was time to pack up and head to Oma & Opa's!  C gets out early on Fridays, so we were able to leave straight from his school.  We made it in time for burgers, and I *thought* we were in perfect time for bed at a normalish time for the littles.  Yeeeah, not so much.  D mastered getting out of the pack 'n play, and kept crawling into J's.  When we separated them, he just got out and opened the door, or messed around inside.  Finally, at 11pm, I dragged his pack 'n play into our room, turned off the lights and he went to sleep.

(10/19) Funny, the little guys were tired this morning.  D slept until almost 9, and almost missed breakfast.  After everyone ate, we pulled on shoes and coats and headed out to play with Oma at the little park.  The boys stomped in puddles, played in the tire, and did the slide.  Both D & J can say "climb!" now.  We headed back in after lots of playing and the littles "watched" a movie (meaning it was on in the background while they ran amok).  They had lunch and then took a nap, in separate rooms this time.  They slept for a good 3 hours.  C and I ran out for coffee and snacks while they slept.  He discovered a Lego kit that he liked while we were out, so I grabbed that and he quietly worked on it during nap time.  When Opa came home, he got out the rest of the Legos.  A good 30lbs of Legos.  C's eyes about popped out of his head!  C was well occupied for the rest of the afternoon.  We did sneak in another park trip and the kiddos played and played and played.  We had cousins and an aunt over for dinner.  The hit of the night was the fruit salad with mini marshmallows.  D picked them all out and then asked for more.   Bedtime went a smidge more smoothly.  D was still awake at 8p when I peeked in, and had escaped the pack 'n play, and turned on the light.  I grumbled at him, moved him away from the door/light and he stayed put after that.

(10/20) We got up and had breakfast - Opa made us blueberry pancakes.  Yum!  And in our family's style, we broke camp, packed up and headed home within a few hours.  We grabbed lunch at Red Robin, and will make a fancy pizza dinner.  We can only do so much without a fridge.  We did stop at the fruit stand to grab 10lbs of apples and a box of pears.  That should last us.... a week or so, the way we go through fruit around here.  We're planning to can them.

(10/21) Today will be chaos.  My car goes in, my foot goes in, our fridge arrives, and C has school.  Good thing we're on vacation?

J sings along to the alphabet song ~ he doesn't know the letters yet, but sings the tune.

Me: Will you help me do the dishes?  (J puts all the silverware away and they both hand me dishes)
J: Dirty!

D (crawling on Moose's head): G'boy!
